Connect your host

Your site goes live on your own host: Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare. When you publish in Xodia, your changes are merged into your live branch on GitHub, and your host builds and deploys them, the same as it does today. Connecting the host lets Xodia show you how that went.

On this page

The Connections page's Hosting group: Vercel connected to the rise-bakery team, with Disconnect, and Cloudflare and Netlify not connected, each with what Xodia reads and its Connect button.

What connecting addsLink to this section

Connecting your host is optional. Without it, Xodia still shows each build and check your host reports to GitHub. Connecting adds:

  • your live address and custom domains
  • every deploy, on every branch, kept up to date as your host builds
  • the build log when a deploy fails, with Fix with your agent to send it to your AI
  • the variables your host uses, so you can copy them into your preview

Host connections come with Starter, Pro and Agency. Starter and up

Before you startLink to this section

  • Your site's code is on GitHub and imported into Xodia.
  • Your host already builds the site from that GitHub repository. If it doesn't yet, import the repository on your host first.
  • You can manage connections in the workspace: owners and admins can by default, and the workspace's roles setting can change that.

ConnectLink to this section

  1. Open Connections

In Xodia, open Connections in the workspace sidebar.

  2. Choose Connect

Under Hosting, choose Connect on the Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare row.

  3. Approve on your host

Your host opens. Sign in if asked, choose the account or team your site is in, and approve.

  4. Back in Xodia

The row says Connected. Xodia finds the site on your host that builds your repository and links it to your project.

Each host has its own page with its details: Vercel, Netlify and Cloudflare.

Netlify doesn't offer limited access: approving Xodia gives it access to your whole Netlify account. Xodia only uses it for what's listed above.

Xodia never shows a variable's value in the browser or to your AI. When you copy one into your preview, Xodia reads it from your host once and stores it encrypted.

See deploys in PublishingLink to this section

Open a project's Settings and choose Publishing. It shows:

  • your site's name, status and live address
  • Builds and checks for any branch: each deploy and each CI check, with a link to its log
  • for a failed build, its error and Fix with your agent, which sends the error to your AI as a fix request

The top bar shows the same status for the branch you're editing.

Publishing's Live site card for a site on Vercel: the live address risebakery.com, deployed from main two hours ago, and under Builds and checks a failed Vercel build on the spring-hours branch with its error and Fix with your agent, and a passed GitHub check.

Copy variables into your previewLink to this section

Your preview runs in Xodia, so it doesn't get your host's variables on its own. If your site needs one to load, such as a CMS project ID or an API address, copy it:

  1. Open From your host

In the project's Settings, choose Environment, then find From your host.

  2. Pick the variables

Tick the variables marked Missing, or choose Select missing.

  3. Copy and restart

Choose Copy to preview, then Restart preview.

A variable marked Secret is one your host never gives out, not even to Xodia. Add it yourself under the environment variables above it.

Common questionsLink to this section

No project on my host builds this repositoryLink to this section

Your host doesn't have a site connected to this GitHub repository. Import the repository on your host; Xodia links it on its own the next time you open Publishing. On Cloudflare you can also choose the Pages project or Worker yourself.

Several projects build this repositoryLink to this section

More than one site on your host uses the repository, for example a staging and a production site. Choose the one that's your live site. You can change it any time in Publishing.

A row says Reconnect neededLink to this section

Access was removed on the host's side, or it expired. Choose Reconnect on the row.

DisconnectLink to this section

In Connections, choose Disconnect on the host's row and confirm. Xodia stops reading from your host and unlinks its sites. Nothing on your host is deleted, apart from the deploy notifications Xodia added on Netlify. You can also remove Xodia's access in your host's own settings at any time.

Note:

Connecting Cloudflare as a host is separate from running Xodia's previews in your own Cloudflare account. That is its own setting, on Pro and Agency.
