Pages, folders and redirects

The Pages panel shows your site as a tree of folders and pages. Put pages in folders to give them addresses like /services/web/design, and move a page or a whole folder: Xodia moves its file and route, updates the links to it and leaves a redirect from the old address.

Page settings for a page in the Classes folder, beside the Pages panel with its folders, collection pages, utility pages and a planned page: the parent folder, the slug with the page's address, the Google search preview, and the title tag and meta description with Generate and their character counts.

The Pages panelLink to this section

Open Pages in the rail beside the canvas. It lists your site in groups:

  • Pages: your pages and folders as a tree. Open a folder to see what's in it; click a page to open it on the canvas.
  • Collection pages: one page per CMS collection, which shows every item. It also sits in its folder in the tree. See CMS collections.
  • Utility pages: pages such as Not found (404).
  • Planned pages: pages in your site plan that aren't on the site yet, with Wireframe and Build. See Plan your site.

A page whose address has a variable part shows many pages: open one from a link in the preview. On Free, a site can have up to 4 pages, and collection pages don't count; see Plans and limits.

Add pages and foldersLink to this section

  1. New folder

Give it a name, which shows in Xodia, and a slug, the part of the address it adds. Choose the folder it goes inside, or the site root. A folder is part of an address: pages you put in it live at /folder/page.

  2. New page

Type the page's name and choose the folder it goes in. The address it will get shows as you type. Choose Create page.

A folder's menu has New page here and New folder here, so you can build a branch of the tree in place. Folders go up to 5 levels deep. An empty folder you made stays in the panel until you put pages in it.

Folder pagesLink to this section

A folder can have a page of its own at its address, such as /services for a services folder, often a page that lists what's inside. Choose Add folder page from the folder's menu; the folder row then opens it, and Folder page settings opens its settings. A folder without one is only part of its pages' addresses.

Move pages and foldersLink to this section

Drag a page or folder onto another folder, or onto the site root, or choose Move to from its menu and pick a folder with the arrow keys. To change a page's address from its settings, open Page settings: the Address section has its Parent folder and Slug, with a preview of the full address.

Before anything moves, a card shows what will happen:

  • The new address, next to the old one, and every page that moves with a folder.
  • The page files that move. On the Xodia template, page files mirror their folders, such as src/pages/services/web/Design.tsx; other sites keep their own file layout and only the route changes.
  • How many links in your site's code are updated, including the menu and footer.
  • Keep the old address working: a redirect from the old address. It is on for pages that were published, and not needed for pages that never were.

Renaming a folder changes only the name Xodia shows; Change slug moves the folder and every page in it, with their links and redirects. Moving a collection's URL folder moves its item pages the same way. Your site plan follows every move.

Moving a page into a folder in Xodia's Pages panel: the confirm shows the new address /classes/bread-basics, one file moved, four links updated in three files and a redirect from the old address, with Keep the old address working ticked.

Undo a moveLink to this section

A move is one change. Undo with ⌘ Z or Ctrl Z puts the files, routes, links, redirects and the plan back as they were. For a very large move, the note under the panel offers Move back instead. Until you save, Discard in Save also brings everything back.

RedirectsLink to this section

Redirects are written in your host's own redirect file, as permanent (301) redirects, so the old address keeps working for visitors and search engines:

  • public/_redirects for Netlify and Cloudflare.
  • The redirects in vercel.json for Vercel.
  • Both, when nothing in the site says which host it uses.
public/_redirects
/services/design /services/web/design 301

Redirects stay one hop: when a page moves again, the older rule points straight at the new address, and a rule from an address that has a page again is dropped. A collection that moves gets one rule for all its items. Redirects work once your host deploys the change.

Clashes and kept addressesLink to this section

Xodia refuses an address that is already in use and says why:

  • Two pages, or two folders, can't share an address.
  • A collection's items own the level under its URL folder: with a blog at /blog, a page at /blog/archive would clash with a post called archive. Add archive to the collection's Kept slugs in its settings to keep that address for a page. A page at /blog itself is fine.
  • Two collections can't share a URL folder, or sit inside each other's item level.
  • Collection URL folders can't use names the site needs for itself, such as api, assets, images, public, src, content, cms or admin.

The home page and pages with a variable part keep their address.

Delete a folderLink to this section

An empty folder goes after a confirm. A folder with pages lists them, and Delete with the number of pages removes them with it. A folder that holds a collection's items can't be deleted until the collection moves. As with every change, Discard in Save brings it back until you save.

Note:

Your AI uses the same moves, with the same link updates and redirects, through the pages and folders tools; see the MCP server reference.
