GitHub

Connect GitHub to import your site's repository and edit it on a live preview. Every save is a commit on a branch, so your team reviews visual edits like any other change, and your site never leaves your repository.

What you getLink to this section

  • Import any repository the Xodia GitHub App may open, on every plan.
  • Saves as normal commits with only the files you changed. Nothing Xodia needs for the editor is ever committed.
  • Branches and pull requests on Starter, Pro and Agency. Starter and up
  • GitHub checks and Actions next to your host's deploys, with a failed one one click from your AI.

Connect GitHubLink to this section

  1. Open Connections

In the workspace sidebar, open Connections. Under Code, choose Connect GitHub. If an account is already connected, the button says Add an account.

  2. Install the Xodia GitHub App

GitHub opens. Choose your account or organization, then all repositories or only the ones you pick, and install.

  3. Back in Xodia

The account shows under GitHub. Its repositories are ready to import in New project.

Any member of the workspace can connect a GitHub account, and the repositories each account grants show when importing. You can also connect GitHub from New project, the first time you choose Import from GitHub.

Import a repositoryLink to this section

In New project, choose Import from GitHub, pick the account and choose Import next to the repository. Xodia installs your packages in a private preview and opens the editor. See Import a site from GitHub.

An imported repository counts as a project on your plan. To open more repositories, choose Missing a repository? Grant access on GitHub, or change the app's repository access in your GitHub settings.

How saves reach GitHubLink to this section

  • Save commits your changes to the branch you choose and pushes it to GitHub.
  • When a preview starts, Xodia catches the branch up with GitHub, so commits pushed from elsewhere show up.
  • Publish merges your branch into the live branch on GitHub, and your host deploys it.
  • The branch menu opens a pull request into the live branch for review on GitHub, merges a branch to make it live, and deletes a branch.

On Free you work on the project's default branch; other branches synced from GitHub are view only.

Move a project to GitHubLink to this section

A project started from a starter keeps its code in Xodia's own storage. Move it to your own repository to publish it with your host and keep the code yourself.

  1. Create an empty repository

In the project, open Settings, Code and Git. Under Connect to GitHub, choose New repository on GitHub and create it empty: leave out the README, license and .gitignore.

  2. Let the Xodia app use it

Choose Install Xodia on GitHub, or Add the repository to Xodia's access if GitHub is already connected, and add the new repository.

  3. Connect

Choose the repository and choose Connect. Every branch moves to GitHub, and Publish now goes through your repository.

Then link the repository to your host as you normally would, and connect your host to see its deploys in Xodia.

Access and securityLink to this section

  • Xodia sees only the repositories you grant its GitHub App; change that on GitHub at any time.
  • The preview gets a short-lived token for one repository. The app's own key stays on Xodia's server.
  • Your host keeps building from GitHub. Xodia doesn't deploy.
Note:

Your AI saves only when you ask, and it can't save to the live branch of a site imported from GitHub. You publish from Xodia yourself.
